Lokalna oblast v Gorici izpolnjuje lasten razredni interes, ko namesto zagotovitve prenočišč raje v gozd pomeče migrante zaradi nemotenega decemberskega praznovanja.

Everyone to Gorizia!

Exactly three weeks ago the local authorities with the help of police in italian city of Gorizia emptied and closed the tunnel in the center of the city. The tunnel was until recently used as a temporary shelter for many migrants faced with negative asylum decision and deportation orders from countries such as France, Austria or Germany. It is worth mentioning that only Germany has in the past year and a half gave negative decision on more than 300.000 applications and the number of forced and supposedly voluntary deportations has in the year 2016 exceeded the number of 80.000. People who have been sleeping in the tunnel and were forced out the city because the local authority under the rightwing major Rodolfo Ziberna wanted no disturbances in winter festivities are a direct result of these restrictive asylum policies. With the denial of citizenship these policies are generating a class of people who are denied their basic rights. Creation of the conditions where people do not have the right to live and to work, when survival is not guaranteed, has its economic side. Economies of European nations are in many cases depended on exploitation of rigthless migrant workers in kitchens, factories, fields and construction sites.

Tunnel in Gorizia was one week before its closure still used by around 100 people, who have in their search for means of survival stopped in this city. After the closure a part of them has moved to the tent in church courtyard, which is taken care of by private humanitarian organizations, some of them have been moved to asylum camps around the state and others have found some space in an already existing Jungle camp in the forest near Soča river or have moved to some other city in Italy. The case of Gorizia shows the paradigm of European migration management on a smaller scale. The only active role of the authorities is the repression which it uses to push back the destructive results of its policies to the outside borders and behind the walls of institutions.

Local authorities in Gorizia fulfill their class interests, when they do not provide sleeping spaces but rather throw the migrants to forest to continue their festivities without disturbances. In this way the local authorities in Ljubljana under the leadership of Zoran Janković are following their class interests when they want to destroy the spaces of autonomous production, in which for social participation there is no condition of the right citizenship and well enough money in the pocket. And instead of the free spaces they want to build the centre of creative industries, a hotel and a parking garage. The fight for the rights of migrants is universal, because it demands universal rights to live and to do decent work, starting from the excluded part of the society.

Fight against the system, which instead of conditions of survival it creates the conditions of ever intensifying exploitation, demands connecting beyond the city limits and national borders. So join the demonstration, which is organized by our Italian comrades this Saturday, 16th of December. Expected start is at 15.00 at the square of St. Anton in the center of Gorizia. Supporters form Slovenia will start the protest at half three by the border in Rožna dolina and then join our comrades across the border.

See you in Gorizia!
